YOUTUBE PLAYLIST: SYNTH MUSIC

Beyond all the record stores, flea markets and thrift shops, I have spent countless hours on youtube, eBay and discogs exploring some of the most obscure minimal synth, darkwave, coldwave, no wave, italo, disco, industrial and proto-house tracks ever made. To spread the word, I have made an unprogrammed, badass playlist of rare tracks. As of March 13th, 2009 there are almost 130 tracks in all. Clicking on the image to the left will take you to the youtube playlist, which will begin playing automatically. Click the “randomize” button to enhance the experience and let your nerd party begin. I frequently add new discoveries and will  compile additional playlists over time. Gems from my own collection along with some special, analog visuals are coming soon!

YOUTUBE PLAYLIST: VOCODERS + EFFECTS

Without vocoders there would be no transformers, no cylons, no kraftwerk, no moroder, no daft punk. Videos in this playlist were integral in my own quest to understand these mythical robot voice-generating machines and include historical gems, demos, instructional clips, iPhone app reviews and some classic tunes.

YOUTUBE PLAYLIST: EQUIPMENT + THEORY

A collection of instructional, demo and documentary video clips featuring electronic music equipment and theory. Includes a great documentary on the groundbreaking BBC Radiophonic Workshop called “Alchemists of Sound” and videos devoted to incredible vintage synthesizers like the ARP 2500 and Korg MS-20/MS-50/SQ-10.
